Certified translations and Apostille stamps

Do I need
a certified translation?

The authorities may ask you to provide a certified translation of your legal document, such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate, diploma or degree, and in some cases they may require an Apostille stamp. Please contact the authorities concerned to find out exactly what they require.

Take a look at my rates page for an overview of my certified translations surcharges.

Certified Translations

A certified translation means the translator has added a statement to verify that the target language text is a complete and accurate translation of the source language text.

Under the Sworn Interpreters and Translators Act, which came into force on January 1 2009, only translators registered with the Register for Sworn Interpreters and Translators are permitted to carry out certified translations. I am listed in the register as sworn translator for English to Dutch translations and Dutch to English translations.

Apostille Stamp

An Apostille stamp authenticates the translator's signature. Apostille stamps are only given to translations for countries that have jointed The Hague Convention of 1961. Documents intended for non-member countries must be legalized. Please note I only provide certified translations and Apostille stamps.

The Hague Convention Member Nations

Please consult the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs website for the most recent data concerning member nations.
