Technical aptitude
In order to interpret technical texts accurately, a translator needs a great deal of technical aptitude. We’ve all seen examples of poorly translated instruction manuals and mounting instructions! In order to translate user guides, instructions, parts lists or instruction manuals correctly, the translator must understands how the machine, device, instrument or process in question works.
Industry-specific terminology
The translation process renders technical jargon in the source text into their target language equivalents. I use my practical experience and the specialist knowledge I gained during my training (see my summarized CV below). If I am not sure how to translate a word, I always rely on general and specialised technical dictionaries, mono and bilingual glossaries, corporate glossaries and specialised translation forums. When needed, I call on a specialist for help. Read more about applying terminology using computer aided translation...
Expertise
I have worked as a qualified professional in both the printing and electrical engineering industries and so am familiar with industry-specific terminology for both disciplines in English and Dutch.
