How to Use the Translator Prompt Manager

First, specify the detailed instructions for all your prompts in the Custom Instructions section of your AI chatbot.

"Do the following for the different prompts I provide:
Rephrase: reword the text to make it read better and more fluently, but always retain the core message.
Correct: rectify the text for proper spelling and grammar in Dutch for the Netherlands.

Next, trigger one of the preset prompts using the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+# (e.g. Ctrl+Shift+1 for Prompt 1). On a Mac use shortcut Command+Shift+#.

When you trigger the browser extension using the shortcut, it will insert one of the pre-configured prompts into the input field of your web-based AI assistant. You can then paste your copied text from the clipboard next to the prompt, and let the AI work its magic.

The following examples show how you can use the pre-configured prompts. These examples were generated by Mistral AI (Large 2411).

  • Input – (Prompt 1) Rephrase: Translation work should be carried out by humans.
  • Output – Translation tasks should be handled by humans.
  • Input – (Prompt 2) Correct: Mahcine translations should always be post-eddited by a hoeman.
  • Output – Machine translations should always be post-edited by a human.
  • Input – (Prompt 3) Translate: Dutch is a West Germanic language spoken by about 24 million people.
  • Output – Nederlands is een West-Germaanse taal die door ongeveer 25 miljoen mensen wordt gesproken.
  • Input – (Prompt 4) Answer: What is the meaning of 'mother tongue'?
  • Output – The term "mother tongue" refers to the first language a person learns, usually from their parents or caregivers during early childhood.

Chrome Extension

Due to browser limitations set by Google, the Chrome and Chromium versions of Prompt Manager for Translators support only 4 pre-set prompts.

Prompt fields 1 to 4 come preloaded with translator- and text editor-focused commands, but you can customize them to suit your workflow. Prompt fields 5 to 9 are empty by default, with no shortcuts assigned, but you can add your prompts and assign shortcuts as needed.

Edge Extension

As Edge is a Chromium-based browser, it contains only 4 pre-set default prompts, just like Chrome.

Prompt fields 1 through 4 include default prompts for translators and text editors, but they are fully editable to match your needs. Prompt fields 5 to 9 are empty by default, with no shortcuts assigned, but you can add prompts and assign shortcuts as needed.

In Edge browsers, the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+# might be assigned to a system function. If this is the case, please try Ctrl+Alt+#. Alternatively, customize the keyboard shortcuts according to your needs by following the instructions below.

Where Chrome is referenced, this also includes Chromium-based browsers such as Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi, which support Chrome extensions through the Chrome Web Store in their own environments.

How to Customize Prompt Manager for Translators

Need to customize or create new prompts? Go to your browser’s Extensions Manager ( > Extensions > Manage Extensions) and click Options. There, you can edit the default prompts or add your own to suit your translation workflow.
