To keep your personal information safe, I have made a conscious decision to limit my use of third-party services that earn money by exploiting people’s personal data.
This website is deliberately free of active social plug-ins. In other words, your browsing will not be monitored by tracking pixels or like buttons.
This website uses analytical cookies only. IP addresses are rendered anonymous.
Analytical cookies have virtually no effect on your privacy. They give the site manager insight into site traffic and popular pages, but do not link this information to individual site visitors.
Below I explain which privacy-sensitive data I store and how I manage and process this data.
Personal Data
You provide your personal data to me whenever you request a quote or submit a text for translation into Dutch.
I use this personal data only for the intended purpose, such as to send an invoice or stay in touch. I retain personal data only for as long as necessary.
Project Data
I use a computer-assisted translation (CAT) tool to create an English to Dutch translation memory (TM) and, in some cases, a glossary.
This stored data helps me work more efficiently on your subsequent projects.
Machine Translation
Every BlacKKite translation is done by a human being, 100%! I do not use machine translation in my CAT tool or deliver post-edited machine translations.
However, if the content for a particular project is publicly available, I may occasionally consult an English to Dutch machine translation system (Microsoft Translator or DeepL) by carrying out a search at the word or sentence level.
Security
I store project files and customer data on the storage media of a dedicated, password-protected computer. This client is protected by Microsoft's built-in security software, Windows Security, in combination with a secondary virus scanner, which is in line with the recommendations put forward by The New York Times in their Privacy Project.
Every two hours a local back-up is automatically made on an on-site external storage device. The data on this device is AES encrypted. I deliberately refrain from using cloud storage.

If you would like to examine your data or have it amended and/or removed from my systems, please let me know. After verifying your identity, I will comply with your request as quickly as possible.
